Endoscopy
Endoscopic examinations are minimally invasive procedures performed by a physician to obtain a direct view of the internal organs of your body. These procedures can provide an accurate diagnosis and, therefore, an appropriate treatment plan for certain health conditions.
An endoscope is a thin, flexible tube with a camera at the tip and is illuminated. It is inserted into the patient’s body through a natural opening, such as the mouth. In some cases, the endoscope may need to be inserted through small incisions in the skin, such as in the knee or abdomen.

Endoscopic examinations are generally not painful but may cause some discomfort. Therefore, upon the patient’s request, the physician may use a mild sedative or anesthetic before performing the procedure.
Based on the physician’s recommendations, you should avoid consuming food and beverages for several hours before the endoscopy.
Since modern endoscopic examinations carry relatively low risks, provide detailed images, and are performed quickly, they have proven to be an incredibly useful method in many medical fields.
